SUBSTITUTE POSITIONS ARE ON-CALL, AT-WILL POSITIONS WITH NO GUARANTEE OF HOURS OR WORK.

 

An online application is required for any Clover Park School District substitute looking for substitute opportunities during summer school.

 

Pay Rate - $21.51/hr

Summer School Dates: June 24 - July 19, 2024 Monday - Friday

                                       (No summer school on July 4-5)

Hours: 7:45 – 11:45 (may vary) (4h)

*Students in Power Scholars class go until 1:00. YMCA staff show at 8:00am

Hours: 8:45 – 12:15 and/or 12:15 – 2:15 (hours may vary)

 

High School:

Harrison Prep

Lakes High School

 

Hours: 9:15 – 12:00 (2.75h) and/or 12:00 – 2:45* (2.75h)


Summer school hiring needs are based on student enrollment.

SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT

Under the general direction of the Building Administrator this position provides paraprofessional and support services to the building in the areas of: classroom instruction; school office, library, and health room support; Schoolwide project services; in-school suspension, playground, crossing guard, and lunchroom support. This position works with students from a variety of multicultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Classroom Instruction Support: Monitor student activities (i.e., drill, practice, and research) after lessons and instructions have been given by teacher. Administer and monitor tests and other assessment instruments as assigned. Maintain classroom discipline in the absence of the teacher, complete appropriate misconduct forms, and/or report behavior to the teacher or principal. Produce teaching aids and other classroom materials as directed by the teacher. Collect, assemble, catalog, and distribute resource materials. Distribute and account for textbook and other miscellaneous equipment. Operate audio-visual equipment. Maintain records, files, and supplies. Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom environment. Accompany students on field trips. Monitor and guide students during emergency drills. Assist students with course assignments. Take classroom attendance and may collect money. Classroom instruction support may be provided to individuals, small groups or the entire classroom as directed by the teacher. Monitor students on the playground. Provide lunchroom support and service. Assist students to safely cross streets at crosswalks.
  2. Library Support: Supervise the library in the absence of the librarian. May supervise students and volunteers in the library. Prepare and issue library cards. Instruct students on how to use the library and materials. Operate and demonstrate audio and visual equipment. Assist in maintaining a neat, clean and orderly library.
  3. Health Room Support: Responsible for maintaining the health room: secure and prepare the health room; maintain inventory of supplies and materials (including first aid kits for building use); order new supplies as needed. Assist the school nurse with scheduling and performing health screenings, document results, administer first aid in accordance with District policy; conduct preliminary evaluation of all students and refer to nurse as appropriate. Notify school nurse and principal of severe injuries, illness, unexcused absences or unusual incidents. Follow state guidelines in the Infectious Disease Control Manual. Notify principal and school nurse and/or school counselor of suspected child abuse. Provide information on child abuse cases as requested. Implement the immunization procedures including immunization form review, parent notification updates and parental information requests regarding immunization requests regarding immunization policies.  Assist in maintaining a neat, clean and orderly health room.
  4. Clerical Support: Prepare and maintain reports, correspondence, order cards, overdue notices, bibliographies, and a variety of forms and materials. Maintain files and records, library materials and instructional pamphlets, student schedules, inventory and equipment lists. Order, receive, and distribute supplies and materials. May collect and account for money received from copy machines and fines.
  5. Student Bus Safety: Assist students with personal needs and equipment on and off the bus. Assist with management of high-risk students that are severely emotionally disturbed and/or dangerous. May prepare and give intervention or carry out certain medical treatments in times of emergency medical plans. Assist passengers and drivers in evacuating the bus in an emergency. Assist driver in performance of daily vehicle inspections and interior cleaning of the bus to ensure compliance with State and district regulations. Instruct student within small group or one to one as assigned by the bus driver.
  6. General Duties: Prepare correspondence and reports. Responsible for maintaining department supplies. Provide daily direction to student assistants and district volunteers. Monitor student activity in theIn-SchoolSuspensionCenter as students work on assignments that have been prepared and given by the classroom teacher. May serve on various district committees and/or departmental work teams. Model appropriate and cooperative behavior, including protecting confidential information consistent with district ethical guidelines. Foster and maintain strong productive relationships with district employees, parents, students, and other community members. Work with a variety of people in a positive manner.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  1. High school diploma or it’s recognized equivalent (GED) and; two years of study at an institution of higher education a (72 quarter hours); or obtain an associate’s degree (or higher); or a passing score on a state or local assessment.
  2. Six (6) months experience working with children or young adults.
  3. Ability to accurately and proficiently keyboard and utilize standard office software programs.
  4. Ability to perform basic clerical tasks such as filing and use of office equipment, such as personal computer, telephone, fax, and photocopy machine and audio visual equipment.
  5. Ability to take initiative and work independently within established guidelines.
  6. Ability to supervise elementary, middle, and high school students in large and small groups.
  7. Ability to listen and respond appropriately to student needs.
  8. Ability to work with kids from a variety of multicultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  9. Ability to make sound judgments in emergency or crisis situations.
  10. Ability to learn skills of verbal de-escalation, restraint techniques and behavior management
  11. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  12. Ability to work under pressure, meet strict deadlines, and maintain established time schedules.
  13. Ability to communicate effectively in a courteous and professional manner with all levels of staff and community members.
  14. Ability to learn and apply District policies and procedures.
  15. Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  16. Must be organized and dependable.
  17. Background check and fingerprinting.
  18. First aid and CPR certification for employee’s assigned to the health room and transportation.
  19. Employee’s assigned to special education resource or self contained classrooms and SLPA’s are required to complete the 14 Core Competences certification with three (3) months of hire. Transportation paraprofessionals must obtain core competencies 12 & 14 with in three (3) months of hire.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in regular school building located throughout the District.  Ability to sit or stand for prolonged period of time; use of fingers, hands and arms; operate a motor vehicle, and tolerance of loud noises and physically demanding situations are all required.

         working with children or young adults. - Documentation must be provided upon hire.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

 

Employment with Clover Park School District is conditional pending completion of a Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint background check as required by RCW28A.400.303. (NOTE: All associated background check fees are the employee’s responsibility.) The fingerprint scan must be completed prior to the first day of employment.

Employees who are anticipated to work 630 hours  during the school year (September 1 through August 31) are eligible for medical, dental, vision, long term disability and basic life insurance benefits.
